Trusting who you are is enough

Do you trust that who you are and what you’re doing in life is enough? 

I recently had an experience which changed my perspective of my own personal ‘enoughness’. 

Of my recent few weeks in Bali, the first week was at a yoga retreat – one I’d already taken 5 or 6 years ago, one that I couldn’t wait to get back to.

There is something about this retreat that’s pretty magical (I’ll list the details at the end of this blog, FYI). Magical for all the obvious reasons (it’s BALI, everything is done for you, you leave feeling amazing for the healthy food and yoga, etc etc) … but magical for another reason that I didn’t necessarily expect.

In fact, the most magical thing about the time spent at this retreat, and the people that I spent it with (none of whom I knew in advance) … was that I felt good enough. For the first time in a long time.

I felt adequate being myself. Just the way I was. 


The thing is … there’s something about the modern, Western world that is rooted purely in lack, and not-enoughness.

There is always something ‘more’ to achieve or gain, always something to change about ourselves, always more to schedule and cram in. It’s a never ending rat-race that is SO easy to buy into, one that can leave an already-fragile person feeling completely inadequate.

Not to mention the online world of social media … which literally breeds comparison and can constantly make us second-guess ourselves, wondering why our lives don’t look quite as shiny as someone else’s. (It’s NEVER that shiny behind the scenes. Question everything you see!).

We start to question our innate ‘enoughness’. 

I felt none of this in Bali while on retreat. I felt at peace with being myself. I didn’t feel that I needed to do anything to prove that I was worthy of anything.

Why did this happen? I don’t really know. Mostly, though, I think it was because I wasn’t around the consumerism, the social media, the constant pressure from society to ‘be better’.

Coming home, I reflected upon the fact that (in my opinion and observations), SO many women wear themselves way too thin trying to prove their worth.

We do way too much, thinking that we have to ‘earn a break’, or earn our ‘right’ to pursue a healthy and soul fulfilling life.

I find this so interesting.
Where and when did we begin to subconsciously believe that we have to live like this?
How do we start to break the patterns?


Consider yourself – right as you are, in this moment.

How many ‘things’ do you deep down feel you need to fix about yourself, and / or do for others, in order to feel validated?

The truth is, you are the only one who can ever validate you.

Once you validate yourself, as you are right now, self-acceptance will fill your world, and the need to meet the unrealistic, false, and often ridiculous expectations of society will fall away.

Making change is a great thing.
Having intentions and goals for ourselves is a great thing.

But when such intentions are rooted in lack and not feeling good enough, the outcome is never good. 

As long as you are looking for your worth to be validated outside of you, you will never realise that you have been worthy all along – and that you never had to do anything to prove it.


Who you are, right now, in this very moment, is perfect, and enough.

So – take a moment to honour that perfection, let go of the inner criticisms about how much more you should be doing, or the list of things you need to change about yourself, and go forth to enjoy your day, and your life!

PS – My Bali yoga retreat recently was done through One World Retreats. I did the ‘Escape The World’ retreat (for the second time), and absolutely loved every minute! I truly believe that a retreat is one of the best things you can do for mind, body and soul. It’s a complete reset!
